Message from Taylor
Katie's Mum has received the following message from Taylor..... Katie was such an inspiration to me.
I wanted to say how I felt and still feel after receiving the very first Katie Star Award. I felt completely honoured and humbledto be selected for such an amazing Award. I will always treasure my Katie Star.
Taylor who impressed the teachers at St Mary's by his hard work, positive attitude, politeness, kindness towards others, commitment to school activities both in school time and extra-curricular activities received his award back in July.
Mrs Grocock said of Katie "In the period leading up to her death Katie became known to lots of people at school who could not fail to be impressed by her courage, dignity and determination to make the most of every moment that remained."
She continued "In so many ways Katie was inspirational but the strength of her faith and conviction that no one should be concerned as to what the future held for her was a lesson for us all."
Earlier this year Jo had visited the school to say that there was still some money left in Katie’s estate and that the family would like to use it to create a special yearly award for a year 6 pupil.
Those of you who have visited school may have noticed a board above our trophy shelves with the heading "The Katie Hart Greenfield Award".
The criteria for selection was for an individual who throughout their time at St Mary’s had impressed the teachers by their hard work, positive attitude, politeness, kindness towards others, commitment to school activities both in school time and extra-curricular activities.
Also their ability to make others feel welcome and wanted – someone who embodied what we hope to be the ethos of our school ‘service before self’. Someone who has been a star.
Katie enjoyed her time at St Mary’s Church of England Primary School in Woodham Ferrers the school wonderfully described by Mrs Grocock as “small but perfectly formed."
We are very proud and humbled that the school continue to remember Katie in many ways. There is a bench in her memory atop the school playing field that allows wonderful views of the nearby countryside.
