Nick's XI Prevail

Nick XI won the rearranged 5th Friends of Katie Cricket Match by 23 runs. The day was well supported and the rain stayed away.

Over £350 was raised for Little Havens and as you can see some wonderful baking was done and much appreciated by supporters. Rob's XI scored 154-6 in reply to Nick's XI 177-3. Please read on for a full report of the game.

Rob's XI won the toss and opted to bowl. Bharat Gandhi and Ian Walden made a confident start putting on 56 before Ian was dismissed for the first time in five years!

Bharat retired on 26 and there followed two brilliant innings by debutant Martin Sanderson (retired 25) and Dave Wilson (retired 29). A late flourish from Dave Williams 22 not out and Glen Ramsey (12 not out) meant Nick's XI had scored 177-3 in their 25 overs.

Rob's XI lost an early wicket but some big hitting from Mike Davis and Barry Delf meant they were up with the run rate. However, wickets were beginning to fall and the asking rate was increasing.

A fine knock of 26 (retired) from Peter Perkins gave Rob's team hope and 24 from Nathan Healey pushed them nearer their target but in the end they finished 23 runs short on 154-6.

Glen Ramsey was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 1-14 off five overs.

Martin Sanderson picked up the Man of the Match award for his batting and also his catch and two stumpings. Nick was presented with the Friends of Katie trophy by gallant losing skipper Rob.
