Katie
Now all the excitement of the cricket match and summer party has died down we reflect on the reasons behind it.
The amount of money raised for the two causes was wonderful but the day was about more than just that.
A lot of hard work went into the event and for those closely involved, Katie's Mum and Dad, Alison and Rob, it was hard to appreciate at the time the significance of the day.
The money raised was brilliant but the rationale behind the day was to bring together all those who knew Katie, or just knew of her story, for a day of reflection, fun and basically a good time in the sunshine.
Days like Sunday are important to Friends of Katie because it reinforces what we know that Katie was loved by many and missed by many too, almost beyond words. To see so many of Katie's peers having a great time was wondeful to see, Katie would have indeed loved the day.
We are very proud that the day was a success and thank everyone who attended and thank all of you who worked so hard. Playing cricket is the easy bit, (even being Man of the Match was easy!) but so many jobs are done on the day that I know nothing about so thankyou for that.
After the day we do feel quite flat, and very tired, but know that there are many of you out there who will maintain Katie's remarkable legacy. I hope the cricket match and day will continue for many years to come in whatever format, the good weather seems guaranteed!, and even if we go easier on the fund raising in the future we know there are "Friends of Katie" out there who will make any event a success.
Please keep visiting our site and we'll see you all at our next "do" whenever that is.
