The Seventh Blog is Here

The seventh blog has arrived – Katie's Dad cannot believe he has inflicted so many on you already!

Oh well, read on and we hope you enjoy it. Beware of the bad joke though.

Firstly this week I would like to talk about the “Curse of Katie’s Cricket Match.” In the first match in September 2008 I thought I had escaped unscathed from the afternoon’s activities apart from a slightly sore head caused by the excellent bar staff.

It was not until the next morning that I noticed my knee hurt but thought nothing of it and carried on as normal with an occasional run here and there and the odd game of squash (very odd sometimes).

Being a typical bloke it was over a year later and after this year’s game that I eventually went to the doctors as the pain was getting worse and I had stopped exercise completely, hence my scales wincing every time I approached them.

My doctor diagnosed medial collateral ligament damage to the knee and recommended a physio and plenty of anti inflammatories. This got me thinking about the many injuries suffered by my team since September 2008.

Mark Walden who could not play this year due to a chronic Achilles injury and Bharat Gandhi who also could not play this year due to a torn cartilage and torn posterior cruciate ligament of his knee (sounds very painful).

Add to these Andy Watson who played in both games but has since suffered a serious motorbike crash where he suffered multiple injuries and is still off work and will be until the New Year.

So I was thinking that maybe next year we could opt for a game of dominoes or something equally non strenuous. Or maybe Rob fancies his chances at last at cricket!

On a sad note those Friends of Katie who attended the Mark Butcher gig at Southend’s Club Riga a couple of weeks ago should know that the bass player on the night, Mark Smith, passed away on November 3rd. Further details are on the Roxy Music website with whom Mark also played.

Finally this week’s joke is an old friend of mine. What is ET short for?

Because he has little legs! Until next time….
