Over £500 Raised for Little Havens!!
Colleagues of Katie's Dad have been amazingly generous and donated £280 to Little Havens in lieu of sending Christmas Cards.
Add to that £221 raised through a raffle at the company too and Little Havens will soon be receiving a cheque for over £500!...
Ironically, long before Katie became unwell I used to raise money for Little Haven Children's Hospice at my office for those colleagues who would rather contribute than buy Christmas Cards.
The irony of doing it for all those years before we as a family used the hospice is not lost on us but since 1998 we have raised thousands for the hospice.
The concept is easy, I remember the time when it first dawned on me that the giving of Christmas cards in some settings is pointless and thoughtless. I delivered a card to a lady colleague's desk who, on seeing me, said "Hold on a minute" and proceeded to write my card and seal it in front of me. It is, they say, the thought that counts!
So I decided then I would ask for a donation to Little Havens and the first year we raised about £35. Word got around and the numerous cards shops near to where I work must have noticed something was up the following years when hardly anyone in the office bought cards but gave to Little Havens instead.
So we will be doing it again this year and if anyone fancies doing the same at their workplace, school of just among friends then I am sure Little Havens would be delighted.
It would be brilliant too if you could mention that the donation is in Katie's memory.
If anyone want any information on how to donate to LH then please contact us and we will let you know - its simple.
Little Havens are aware of this idea and have sent me a large Christmas Card for people to write a message along with their donation in lieu of sending cards. Please send us any Christmas messages you may have via our "messages" tab.
Of course cards from our special ones are priceless and we are not asking you to stop sending cards all together! Katie loved making home made cards for any occasion and a number of these are framed and have pride of place in my house.
